Trip report: fantastic home exchange in London

Columbia Road Flower Market in East London“James and Maria Jose have a lovely home not far from Bethnal Green tube . It is on two levels with two sitting rooms and surprisingly quiet for being just behind the main road. We arrived at our home swap home to find a welcome bottle of wine in the fridge, useful instructions on how everything worked and ideas of where to eat and visit in the area.

We walked to Brick Lane for a meal the first night, and found the area buzzing with activity. On Sunday morning we walked to Columbia Road for breakfast and a look around the flower market and shops, and later on we also walked to Victoria Park for a picnic as we had great weather. The area has a lot going on and its pretty easy to get around by bus, tube and train, but also there’s plenty nearby to visit on foot.” Rachael

Home exchange highlights:

  1. A visit to Columbia Road flower market
  2. Sunbathing in Victoria Park

Home swap trip report: ideal base for exploring the Peak District

Guardian Home Exchange in the Peak District“We had a lovely new year home swap in Penistone. The house is conveniently located close to the town centre’s shops, restaurants, and (very quaint) heritage cinema. The house is enormous and even with six of us we only used half the bedrooms. They have a particularly fine kitchen which is very well equipped and will be appreciated by any keen cooks. This is an ideal base for anyone wanting to explore the Peak District National Park and surrounding area.”    – Nicky

Home swap trip report in Port Vendres, France

Guardian Home Exchange in France“We swapped homes from 9th Sept to 9th Oct 2015. The home was very comfortable and well equipped with fantastic views out over the Med from both the upstairs and downstairs patios. We loved the many hikes/walks in the area plus of course the delicious food available in the local restaurants and cafes. Port Vendres plus nearby Collioure and Banyuls sur mer are charming and beautiful. We also enjoyed venturing into the nearby mountains for trips to abbeys, thermal baths, and rivers for kayaking. We found the local people very friendly and helpful even though our knowledge of the French language was very minimal. Ronny and Brian were great in answering any questions we had. We highly recommend this home swap!”   – Jerry & Maralyn

Highlights of the swap:
  1. Awesome views out over the Med
  2. Lots of nearby walks/hikes
  3. Short drive to the mountains

Home swap trip report: Wonderful first exchange in Malaga, Spain

Guardian Home Exchange in Spain“We have traveled extensively in southern Europe, the Antipodes, USA and Canada. We are golfers and we love the south of Spain. This was our first home swap and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Being rookies at this home exchange business, Sammy and Susie helped us in every way to set up our home manual / draft agreement (which we did not need nor use) and the communications when we were staying in each others homes were fast, prompt and reassuring. They kindly allowed us to have friends stay with us in their lovely home. Sammy and Susie tell us they enjoyed staying in our home, sailing with some of our friends in the neighbourhood and exploring the summer delights of Victoria and Vancouver Island. Many thanks Sammy and Susie.”  – Nic & Jane

Home swap trip report: the best time in Australia

Guardian Home Exchange in Australia“We had a one month home swap with Viki and Dave and it was incredible! The house is beautiful and in a brilliant location – within an easy drive of a huge amount of varied beaches (each one more stunning than the last). The pool in the garden is beautiful, but with all of the incredible beaches so close by, we didn’t use it much. There were lots of shops, supermarkets and coffee shops nearby. I really can’t recommend Viki and Dave’s home/location enough – it was a genuine life-highlight for us (it was that incredible!). They kindly allowed us to use their car which helped hugely for exploring the area. Oh and there were also lots of kangaroos nearby. We’ll never forget the trip.”  – Monica & Freddie
